The University offers many services to ensure you and your family have everything you need in your new home. Whether you need guidance in your relocation, daycare for your child, or recommendations on where to find the best food, University staff and support are here to help.
Housing
Graduate Student Housing provides a wide variety of apartment sizes, designs, and rates. Choose from 1,300 units in 28 apartment buildings owned and managed by the University. Conveniently located within walking distance of campus and near public transportation, all of our buildings provide bicycle storage, a laundry room, and a two-way intercom to a locked building entrance.
Health
Student Health and Counseling Services at the University of Chicago Medical Center provides a number of student health services.
- Primary Care Service – On-campus medical care
- Student Counseling Service – Consultations and short-term counseling
- Health Promotion and Wellness – A new unit established to increase and coordinate services and programs related to preventive health matters and overall well-being
- University Student Health Insurance – A health insurance plan that students are automatically enrolled in unless they choose to waive this coverage
For students with dependents, primary pediatric care is available through Comer Children’s Hospital. Visit their General Pediatric Care website for more information.
Dining
There are many dining options on campus, as well as a variety of nearby restaurant options in the Hyde Park community. On-campus dining offers food courts, cafes, all-you-can-eat cafeterias, and options for students who follow halal, keep kosher, or have dietary restrictions or food allergies.
Students with Families
Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center provides a welcoming space where families from the University community can access resources, information, and supportive programming and services. The center is free and open to University-affiliated families.
Childcare and Schools
The University of Chicago and affiliated organizations and institutions provide a variety of childcare resources, including schools, preschool education, daycare services, and recreation for children of all ages. There are many schools in Hyde Park, including the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and Charter School.
Graduate Student Orientation
Every year, Graduate Student Orientation helps introduce students to the University with presentations from student services offices and an Information Fair, where you can speak to representatives of several offices on campus in addition to various community organizations.
